2010 Stewardship Week

Conservation Habits = Healthy Habitats
April 25–May 2, 2010

Conservation Habits=Healthy Habitats

The Livingston County SWCD is pleased to announce the 2010 Stewardship theme:

 "Conservation Habits = Healthy Habitats."

Stewardship Week will be officially celebrated April 25 to May 2, 2010. We encourage you to celebrate throughout the year.

The Livingston County Soil and Water Conservation District encourages you to think about your personal responsibility to be a good steward of natural resources during its' annual Stewardship Week celebration.  The National Association of Conservation Districts (NACD) has proclaimed April 25 - May 2, 2010 as Stewardship Week, marking the 55th year of the national event.  The 2010 Stewardship Week is themed, "Conservation Habits = Healthy Habitats," encouraging citizens, schools and communities to develop and maintain habitat areas using good conservation practices.

The District was formed to assist people in Livingston County with providing them with technical and educational assistance in the wise use and management of our natural resources.  We will do so in a manner that allows our citizens full access to our natural resources, and yet, make these resources available to future generations in the same, or better, condition as we found them.  During Stewardship Week, Livingston County SWCD encourages you to become a good steward by taking action and providing a habitat right in your own back yard.  Things you can do include, putting out bird feeders, installing native plants, or providing some form of shelter for the different animals that live around your home.

"Being good stewards of our natural resources at home and in our communities is an important task for each citizen.  When we think about protecting and managing our natural resources, we can provide healthy habitats for the ecosystems on our planet," says NACD President Steve Robinson.  "Each of us can make a difference by developing habitat areas in our own backyards, our schools or in our communities."

Livingston County Soil and Water Conservation District is a member of the National Association of Conservation Districts (www.nacdnet.org) which oversees the Stewardship Week program.  Stewardship Week is one of the largest national annual programs to promote conservation.  NACD represents the nation's 3,000 conservation districts, which were established to encourage resource conservation across the country.
